Title : Blue-Paw-Prints
The design for these exterior panels, installed on a mid-century modern home, is inspired by the actual footprint of the home with each area represented by architectural or international symbols indicating its use. The paw prints tie the design together and are a personal expression of the owner’s pets and their paths through the home. The framing was made of Ipe wood to match the walkway.
Title: Retro-Mezzo
The client provided images of forms that interested them, such as Oceania Art, Brutalism and Garden Art. This is my synopsis of these styles. The piece never made it into the garden…it’s been given a place of honor in the dining room.
Title: Ode to Picasso-Three Faced Vessel
I am very inspired by Picasso’s cubist drawings and his translation of these into his ceramic work in the late ‘40’s. My client, a friend from school, loved the original from dcalvertstudio.com website and emailed me to share her feelings. She was sad that it was no longer available. I offered to recreate a likeness but used a slightly warmer palette and deer tail brushes to achieve a more whimsical expression.
Title: Spirit Masks
This couple wanted masks that represented spirit animals. He wanted a Northwestern Native reference, she wanted a Snow Tiger. They have been installed on posts and from trees in Florida and now in North Carolina. Below are an Owl, Snow Tiger, Bear and Hawk.
